Jingyuan’s art is rooted in her experience with bilateral nerve hearing impairment, a progressive condition that shaped her heightened sensitivity to sound. Growing up in a society that stigmatized disability, she developed a vigilant relationship with sound to prove her capability, often at the cost of fear, anxiety, and alienation. Her work explores these struggles, shedding light on the nuanced realities of living with a disability.
Initially focusing on 2D and non-interactive works like analog films, sonic sculptures, and sound pieces, Jingyuan shifted to interactive art to create immersive experiences. Using tools like TouchDesigner, Arduino, and Unreal Engine, she invites audiences to step into her world, fostering empathy by allowing them to feel the tension and vulnerability sound brings to her life.
Through her work, Jingyuan challenges societal perceptions of disability, promoting inclusion and understanding in a sound-dominated world.
